Text Properties Palette

Text propertiesAppearance of the palette with Variable Data Printing Extension. Some controls are not used without this extension.

You can activate this palette in the mode Numbering and Custom Objects after selecting a text object using Properties button on the Info Palette or double-click on the selected object. This palette allows you to set detailed text properties. In addition to the options available in the Info Palette, you can also set left, center, and right alignment, which makes sense only for text in multiple lines (because the location of the text is defined on the Info Palette) and it is applied only to the mutual location of individual lines. You can also set the maximum line length – if the text is longer, it is split into multiple lines (only if the text contains spaces). The Reduce font size option does not split the text into multiple lines, but reduces the font size of longer text so that the text does not exceed the set size (however, the display of the font size on this palette does not change, since different instances of the object can have different lengths and thus different reductions). You can also insert predefined symbols for a number of variables such as sheet number, page number, file name, and so on. These symbols are shown in blue.

Parts of the text can be formatted differently. If you select a part of the text, you can set its font, size, bold and italic attributes, fill and outline color. Numbered start and end symbols (light blue) of a different format are inserted into the text (for clarity), e.g. [F:1S] and [/F:1S] (S – size, B – bold, I – italic, F – font, C – fill color, O – outline properties). These symbols can only be inserted automatically and there is no point in typing them manually, they would be ignored. If the text is not selected, the basic format of the text object is set. Only the above-mentioned attributes can be formatted differently, everything else is set for the entire text. The controls of this palette display the properties of the text at the cursor position (they are also displayed on the status bar of the palette), but basic properties of the object are displayed on the Info palette.

For Variable Data Printing Extension only: You can also insert symbols for individual fields from the data file into the text (if you need to enter a higher number than fields in the list, you can manually overwrite it in the text). Invalid field symbols (not existing in the data file) are ignored and displayed in red. You can use symbols "Hide if next/previous field is empty" to hide part of the text – the text between this symbol and the next or previous field symbol will be hidden. Example: for address in multiple rows use "Hide if next field is empty" before end of row and field symbol to eliminate empty rows (if the address contains several fields, some of which are empty). It is also possible to show the Data Import Palette to define a source data file. If you use double-sided sheet you can set if the same record is used on the back side. You can use two repeat modes of pages for imposition if there are not enough pages to use all records from the data file. In that case, either only the last page is repeated, or after the last page is used, the first page is used as the following, followed by all the other pages for imposition (imposition will start from begin again).

A simplified variant of this form is used for a barcode where it can be used to specify a combination of text and data fields as the data source for code generation.
